Run 1909 & 1910 Pan Iberian Away Weekend Aracena
Pan Iberian Hash Camp 2024: Arencena Edition
The Convento hotel proved to be our fortress of debauchery, serving as the perfect base camp. We fortified ourselves for the impending run with a breakfast fit for warriors and enough coffee to jump-start a space shuttle—essential ammunition against the lingering specter of last night's revelry. At the ungodly hour of 12pm, we rallied at Plaza de Santo Domingo for the RV, where only the bravest souls among us, the true hardcore Hashers, geared up for the Macho run—a supposed stroll in the park that turned out to be a marathon in disguise (bullshit!). With the triumphant cry of "On On!", we charged forth, scaling the heights of the village and encountering a devious Check Back at the castle. Undeterred, we pressed on, weaving through the streets, then out into the verdant countryside, a place reminiscent of Sherwood Forest. Seven kilometers later, we stumbled upon the holy grail of Hashing—the first beer stop. Ah, the nectar of the gods never tasted so sweet! With our thirst somewhat quenched (though not for long), we reluctantly resumed our pilgrimage, trailing behind like the slowpokes we were. Past the church we trudged, only to find ourselves heading towards the Camino de Arencena. A wrong turn (curse you, false trail!) added an extra twenty minutes to our journey, much to the horror of our already protesting calves. Little did we know, the worst was yet to come—all uphill! By the time we staggered into the second beer stop, reduced to a meager cool box and a handful of patient Hashers, we were ready to drink anything wet, even muddy puddle water. But fear not, for after a brief rest, we soldiered on toward the coveted On In, arriving ten minutes later, our calves ablaze and our skin tinged with the mark of the sun. After a grueling 16 kilometers, the promise of an extravagant picnic and bottomless beers beckoned like a mirage in the desert, and let me tell you, it was nothing short of divine.
Now, about the dinner on Saturday night... the less said, the better. Let's just say it was an evening that will live on in Hash infamy. Whether it was the food, the shenanigans, or the combination of both, it's a chapter best left unwritten. Sunday's recovery run was short and sweet, just how we like it. A gentle trot to shake off the cobwebs and bid adieu to our weekend adventure. All in all, it was an amazing weekend filled with laughter, sweat, and a few questionable decisions—exactly what we Hashers live for!
