The goats ate my trail
About twenty of us gathered somewhere near Coín, including two virgins, Jasmine and Michael. These two come from Merseyside, she from The Wirral and he from Liverpool proper, so just watch your wallets and purses if they turn up again.
Seeing that JSW was the hare I decided to prepare properly so off I went to Decathlon to get kitted out in the latest rock-climbing gear. I was prepared for anything she would throw at us. And what did she throw at us? Absolutely nothing. This was a very unJSW-like trail. Not once did we take our lives into our own hands. No dense undergrowth to claw our way through, no hazardous rocks to clamber over, no steep slopes to fall down or clamber up. And I swear, nowhere on trail did she use her machete to cut a path. Is she getting soft in her old age or was it Mummy´s Boy that set the trail? Until we got to the macho trail there was hardly any change in elevation apart from the 72 steps as we exited a park just before the drink stop. But it was a great trail, especially for the runners and, apparently, mostly virgin territory.
We started off along the side of a dry riverbed and came to a check. Salmonella rushed off in one direction not to be seen for a while as he had managed to find the in trail and did quite a big loop. Then we encountered a herd of goats meandering along the riverbed, but no trail. Turned out the goats were of the flour eating variety. Eventually, after much searching, we discovered trail again. At one point we found two large arrows pointing right. Mr. Rushdie insisted this could not be the trail as he had already been along there. However, this did not stop him from going along there again. From Behind was convinced that the arrows would lead to a check back so proceeded on left, eventually to realize that the rest of the pack had gone in the right direction. On the next section of trail we encountered yet another herd of goats and again a total lack of marks, except, fortunately, for a few micro chalk arrows on little rocks which kept us going in the right direction.
At the drink stop there were some complaints that it had taken an hour and forty minutes to get there. General consensus that the trail to the drink stop was somewhere in the region of 7.5k. Even those that had been given a short cut had 7k, but that might have been because the hare´s directions may not have been totally accurate. Despite these complaints a surprising number opted to do the macho trail, which, in bits, was a bit more JSW-like. And it was on the macho trail that we met the friendly horse we had been warned about. Standing there tied up, all alone on a narrow path. Didn´t look all that friendly to me. I was FRB on the macho trail and I clocked in at a little under three hours.
As dusk descended Colonic conducted the circle in his usual entertaining manner with crimes actual or imagined being rightly punished. As I had a Zoom meeting to get to I didn´t make it to the on on but from the photos it looked like all were having a good time. Hopefully they all got home before midnight.
An excellent hash, many thanks to JSW and her sidekick Mummy´s Boy.
