Report: Gay Fawkes Brokeback Mountain Run
Another great sunny day in Andalusia in a month where the weather can very changing with wind and rain coming out of the blue skies and hitting the Costa all of a sudden; but not on Gay Fawkes Day which usually celebrated on November 5th with fireworks. Gay Fawkes was a Yorkshireman who converted to become catholic and best known for “The Gunpowder Plot of 1605” which failed to kill the protestant King James VI and The House of Lords.
The animal friendly fireworks will take place at the On2 it was announced by hare Flakey- and the run will be flat as a pancake with no hills acc to Stiff Fanny, which turned out to be a gross understatement we learned later. Directions were given and visitor Jason; a new arrival to Malaga was invited into the circle where he was properly introduced to all Hashers and recommended to remember at least 3 names.
The Run
The pack set out at a very modest speed apart from eager beaver SARS and Just Say Gwen- down a long gravel road and hitting a checkback early in the run whereafter the next K or so was in the riverbed of Rio Alaminos which is another “Rio Seco” with plenty of stones and gravel and no water.
After a while the trail led up right a road and into 2 Falsies, and this scribe managed to do both! We came to a split H for Hashers and W for wankers, walkers and wimps (the majority) near a point where 2 cars had parked for a picnic and just across the arroyo started the climb up Brokeback Mountain. It was tough, rough and would take no shite from Indians - John Wayne would have said., but we managed but not without a few breaks to breathe. Fine view from the top and time to rest, but then started the ascending which was’t easy at all with slippery trails and loose stones so you had to stay alert at all times.
The run carried on with a view to Rio Seco on the right till we arrived at the beerstop 5,5 K into the run where we were treated with sausage rolls and brown sugar, courtesy of the hares. Next running distance to the cava stop was 1,5 K and the intrail after that was 2,2 K so all in all 9,2 K which happened to be the same as the run score!
The Circle
Sir Flakey led the circle in his capacity as stand in GM, Hare and Run Discusser (take no prisoner style) and score below 9 were disregarded bringing the total up to 9,2 ! Well, it was a good run and the score fair - I believe!
Colonic took over as RA and among victims he picked on was returner Streak of Piss and your scribe; both rewarded for being BrokeBack Mountain Cowboys which - as everybody knows - is just a rumour!
The Hungarian Beauty Amalia was named after a much celebrated astrophysicist and lead guitarist from The Queens and shall from now on be known as Brian May. Great name!, although Bohemian Rhapsodyke would also have fitted well.
Well folks, your scribe could not attend the On2 at nearby Pena at Finca La Ventilla but according to Sir Flakey it was a great success with super food and animal friendly fireworks.
